How we handle your data

This page covers the AWNA mailing list on awna.app, and what happens if you buy AWNA. The short version: we use your email address to tell you what's new in AWNA, and for nothing else. If you tell us what you'd like from AWNA, we keep that too, to help decide what to build. If you buy it, we keep what we need to send you your licence and support it.

Who we are

AWNA is made by Afterimage Software, based in Scotland. You can contact us about your data at hello@afterimage-dev.com.

What we collect

• The email address you give us, when you signed up, and which of the page's two sign-up forms you used.
• If you tell us what you'd like from AWNA after joining: your message, when you sent it, and the email address you joined with, so we can reply. It's kept on our server and passed to our own inbox.
• If you ask on your phone for the download link by email: your address, to send you that one email through Resend. It isn't added to the list unless you tick the box to hear what's new. To stop the form being used to flood someone's inbox, the server remembers that it sent it until the end of the day, in memory only, never written down.
• Your IP address, briefly. To stop abuse, the waitlist remembers the addresses of recent sign-up attempts for up to 10 minutes. They're held in memory only and never written down. We don't keep web server access logs.
• Our server's logs note each sign-up using a shortened form of your address, like ja***@example.com.

We count visits with Umami, which runs on our own server in Germany rather than anyone else's. It doesn't use cookies and can't follow you to other sites: it records the page you looked at, where you came from, and rough details like country, browser and whether you're on a phone. We don't use advertising trackers. We store two small things on your device, each only once you've done something that needs it: after you join, your browser remembers your address so the page can show you're already on the list, and if you press the light or dark button, it remembers which you chose. Both stay on your device, and clearing this site's data in your browser removes them.

The home page has a feedback button from BuildHop. Loading it means BuildHop's server sees your IP address and browser, as any site you visit does. If you use it, what you write goes to BuildHop, and your browser keeps a small note from it so the conversation can carry on.

Why we use it

To send you one email confirming you've joined, then to tell you when there's something new in AWNA: a new version, a new feature, or a change to what it costs. If you send us an idea, we use it to decide what to build, and we may reply to you about it. We rely on your consent, which you give by signing up, and you can withdraw it at any time with the unsubscribe link in every email.

Who else handles it

• Hetzner Online GmbH hosts this website and our own copy of the waitlist, on a server in Germany.
• Stripe handles buying AWNA, as described below.
• Resend sends our emails (including your licence key, and passing any idea you send on to our inbox) and holds the mailing list we send them to. Resend is based in the United States, so your email address is transferred there under their data protection terms.
• Google Fonts serves the typeface on this site, which means your browser connects to Google's servers.

We never sell or share your address with anyone else.

The AWNA app

Everything you put in AWNA stays on your PC. Every few hours, the app asks this website whether there's a new version, and when the beta ends. The update check says which version of AWNA you have. The first one each day also says that it's running and roughly how long it's been installed (under a week, one, two or three weeks, four to seven, or eight or more), and the very first one says it's new. Every copy says the same few words, so none of it tells us which copy it is, or whose. Neither request includes anything about you or what you keep in AWNA. Voice input's speech model is downloaded once from Hugging Face, and its graphics card engine from NuGet (Microsoft's package site), and only if you choose to turn voice on; what you say is turned into text on your PC. Sending files to or from your phone happens between your PC and your phone, across your own Wi-Fi: the files are encrypted on the way, the code you scan works for that one phone only, and nothing goes through the internet or our server. If you switch on Claude Code or Codex status, AWNA reads what those tools report on your PC (whether they're working, need you or are done, which project, and your plan usage), never your prompts, your code or their replies, and none of it leaves your PC. Feedback and problem reports only reach us when you press Send, with what you wrote (and the report you saw), your email if you gave it, and which versions of AWNA and Windows you have. We keep a daily tally of how many downloads and update checks there were, which versions checked, and how many copies were running and for how long, so we know what people are running and whether they keep it; it's counted up, never stored per person.

If you buy AWNA

Stripe sells AWNA for us as the merchant of record: it takes the payment, handles tax, sends your receipt, and holds your card and billing details under its own privacy policy. We never see your card.

• From Stripe we get your email address and a reference for the order, which we keep to send you your licence key, help if you lose it, and handle refunds.
• When you activate AWNA on a PC, we keep an anonymous ID for that PC (a scrambled form of an ID Windows makes up for it, which can't be traced back to you or the machine) so a licence works on up to three PCs.
• For the first 14 days after you buy, while you can still ask for a refund, AWNA checks with us once a day that your purchase is still valid, sending only your licence key and that anonymous ID. After that, it never checks again.

We rely on our contract with you to use this data, and keep it for as long as your licence exists, so we can always help you with it.

How long we keep it

Until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove you.

Your rights

You can ask to see, correct or delete the data we hold about you, or to be removed from the list, by emailing hello@afterimage-dev.com or replying to any email from us. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.
